These two principles can be used more often than not to help you identify why certain pain exists:

    1. Your body takes the path of least resistance.
    2. You get pain where you move too much.  

    Although it may sound pretty straightforward, these two facts are often overlooked and can lead to repeated injury and lingering aches and pains. If you think about the most classic example of the hips and back, you’ll see just how relevant these two key principles are. Individuals often move too little through their hips, which results in an overextended movement through the back.

    The outcome is an overworked back that can get stiff and often painful. Our initial reaction is to usually just treat the back pain, but that may only provide temporary relief. Addressing the real issue, your hip movement, is what can provide lasting pain-free results.

    It’s important to note that there are some cases where these principles don’t apply – but they are a great place to begin digging for answers, and hopefully you’ll discover the real reason why you’re experiencing pain.
